At Oxleaze we strive to be as gentle on the land as possible. We farm both organically and sustainably, working with nature to boost our soil health and biodiversity which in turn enriches our environment and allows us to produce premium, nutrient rich food
The farm was certified organic in 2007. Since then we have progressively expanded our commitment to environmental measures, working alongside organisations including Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG), Pasture for Life and Natural England to strengthen the farm’s connection with nature. We have participated in Countryside Stewardship schemes since their inception and are currently enrolled in a five-year Mid-Tier Countryside Stewardship
Most of the farm is grassland, extensively grazed by a 100% pasture-fed traditional suckler cow herd of Aberdeen Angus who benefit from the flower-rich grassland, herbal leys and unimproved pasture that we introduced 20 years ago
For our efforts we have been rewarded with an explosion of biodiversity from wildflowers, insects to birds and wildlife – the farm quite literally hums with life. An RSPB survey recorded the highest number of linnets in the UK, we are home to over 20 broods of English Grey partridge and flocks of 300 lapwings pass through the winter following the cattle
The farm itself, both commercially and domestically has been heated by a 200kwh biomass since 2012 which is run on 50% of our own woodland, having planted over 30,000 trees and 26,000 hedging plants. A solar PV array of 270 Kw provides our electricity. Recently we have installed 2x EV charging points to allow delegates of the 14 businesses onsite and wedding guests to charge their electric cars
